Bad Credit Repair – How To Restore Your Credit And Your Life

Conleth Onu asked:

It is often difficult for us when we have bad credit and not knowing where to start to get back on our feet again is even more frustrating.

If you have bad credit, you might want to check into a few resources that can help you find a solution to your credit problem. Life does not have to be difficult and all of us make mistakes.

Bad credit is an obstacle and if you want to run you are about to get yourself into a situation that you do not really need. There is always a solution to most problems. The problem most times is some of us do not have the means to find solutions to our problems.

In this article, I am going to make it quick and to the point, helping you repair your credit through the process.

So the first step is to collect copies of your credit report from the major credit bureaus. Credit bureaus compile and sell information about consumers and are a principal source of information about your credit history.

You are entitled to receive a free copy of your credit report if you have been denied credit within the past 60 days. If you have not been denied credit within the past 60 days, you can order your credit report by paying a fee.

Next, review your credit report watching closely for errors (items that do not belong to you). Dispute any errors on your reports immediately with the credit bureaus. Any errors or inaccurate information will be deleted.

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, all negative information seven years old or more must be deleted. Bankruptcy stay on credit report for up to 10 years or longer.

Once you dispute the negative information, you will receive a copy of your report from the credit bureau, showing the items that were removed and the items that were verified as accurate. The dispute method of removing negative information from your credit file can improve your credit rating.

The Internet offers credit report information, guides, and kits, which can lead you in the right direction to repairing credit. You might want to surf the Net for resources that can help you find a way out of bad credit.

Credit Repair Plans After Bankruptcy

Jennifer Quilter asked:

Credit repair after bankruptcy isn’t really the right wording for what it is you’re really doing, you’re not really going to be fixing things specially, you’re rebuilding. All of the work you’ve already done in court was the fixing part of your financial problems, you made the debts go away. Now, you have a fresh start with your finances, well, sort of.

Sadly, you will be looked down on for having these past problems, you can’t escape your debt completely. But what you can do is build up a new history to show people when you go to apply for anything where your finances are looked at, and this is how you will work on credit repair after bankruptcy.

You want to start on this immediately after you’ve finished filing if possible. The first thing you need to do is save up a few hundred dollars in an account.

Then, about a month after filing, you want to check your credit report for errors. This is key to everything else really, and something most people skip over. Companies will often fail to mark down your accounts as “included in bankruptcy”, they’ll just leave them marked as “overdue” or still open. You want to keep calling and talking to managers until someone changes this for you. If you don’t, it will look like you have both this discharge in your past, and more debts. This will follow you for years, so do take care of it!

Then you want to use that money you saved and get a secured credit card at the bank. In twelve to eighteen months this card should switch over to an unsecured card if you’ve made your payments on time every month.

After six months to a year you’ll want to look into getting a small secured loan, and make the payments on time each month. Your financial history is made up of both card and loan payments, so having a mix of these will help keep all your bases covered.

The most important thing you can do for yourself is to make all of your payments on time each month, this is the key ingredient for any plans for credit repair after bankruptcy.

The Absolute Fastest Credit Repair Method

Ryan J. Taylor asked:

Credit repair concerns seem to come just as it may seem too late. But even if you have already been denied for a loan or believe you have plenty of room for improvements, it is not too late. There are many strategies you can do right now, without the help of a credit counselor, to get the loan you need.

But fast credit repair has just as much to do with your current situation as it does to the specific method to raise your score. For example, if you currently have fairly good credit but have a few late payments, your strategy is going to be much different than someone with a bankruptcies and a series of failing to repay their loans.

There is, however, one thing that just about anyone can do to instantly increase their score. This is a very easy process that does not require a lot of time or even any clue what your current credit score is.

Imagine that if with one quick phone call you could immediately increase your credit rating? What would that do for your current situation?

One of many tricks to accomplish this lies with adjusting the amount of debt you currently have. This doesn’t necessarily mean paying off your balances. This has to do with the fact that a big part of your credit score has to do with the ratio between the amount of debt you currently have and the limit on your credit cards.

For example, if you have a credit card with a $5,000 spending limit and you currently have a $2,500 balance, you have a 50% debt ratio.

Lenders like to see this number closer to 35%, and the way to do this is to get more credit. Simply call your credit card companies, tell them you received an offer in the mail to transfer your balance to their competitor and they’ll give you a bigger spending limit. Tell them that you thought you would give them the courtesy of seeing if they could match the spending limit increase before making the switch.

Your business is incredibly important to them, especially if you are a spender and now you are asking about how you can spend more money. So chances are they will be willing to accommodate you in order to keep you as a customer.

As a result of your new spending limit, your have effectively reduced your debt ratio, which happens to be one of the biggest parts of your credit score.

How to Repair Bad Credit

Chane Steiner asked:

No matter how bad your credit is, there are always steps you can take to make it better. Everyone’s situation is unique, so what might be the best thing for you right now, may not be the best thing for someone else. To repair your bad credit, you must find a starting point. The best way to do that is to obtain a copy of your credit reports from the 3 major consumer reporting agencies, also known as credit bureaus. You will also want to know what your FICO scores are.

Once you have your reports, you’ll want to make sure all the information is accurate. There are mistakes in about 75% of all credit reports. If you find an inaccuracy or any negative accounts that you are unsure of, dispute it with the credit bureaus. It’s important to note that whether the account is actually yours or not makes no difference on their responsibility to verify it. If the account can’t be verified, it must be deleted.

Many of times the credit bureaus, who get thousands of disputes each day, don’t do a very thorough job of investigating items you’ve disputed. So, it may take a few rounds of letters until the credit bureaus remove the account. Be patient and wait at least 30-35 days before sending another round.

Another thing you should do is pay off the most recent past due accounts. Be careful making payments on accounts that are more than a few years old as paying them can bring your scores down even further because it makes the negative account current. You will also want to try to get an agreement with the creditor to update it to “paid as agreed” or remove the account BEFORE you pay it. It’s much harder to get it updated or removed after you pay it because you don’t have much leverage.

Another important part of raising your credit scores is to keep your existing balances below 40% of your credit limit. You’ll also want to minimize the number of inquiries you make by not applying for credit unless absolutely necessary.

What is a good credit repair company?

c-limeade asked:

I am aware that I can do this myself but I don’t have time to do it myself. Can anyone refer me to a good legit credit repair service. This question is ONLY for people who have used a credit repair service so please don’t answer if you haven’t used one. I don’t have any bankrupt or liens or anything that serious, but I do have a lot of collection, late payments, 1 charge off, and 1 repossession and a lot of inquires.
